XFiles fanwish (no spoilers in this post)

Had an x-files binge over the past few days, catching up on the first three eps of the reboot.
Enjoying. (not making any comments here because I am not writing spoilers in this post).
...Ah memories ... the old x-files.... I cannot remember which year I got into it but I have vivid memories of marathoning it in the late 90s and earlyish 00s, zooming through each season's box of DVDs, rewatching eps on repeat.
I was a SERIOUS FAN although not in a fanworks & fanning online sort of way.
Now I sort of wish I could write fanfic for x-files but I just cannot think of what I would have written then or what I would write now. I guess it's a case of being happily satisfied with the end-to-end series as is (faults and all, and the series certainly had its faults). What more is there for me to say? Not even all that interested in finding xfiles fanfic unless it is from a writer I know.
Anyhow, if I did write x-files fanfic, it would be nothing but fandom-original parody episodes set up like weekly shows and lone gunmen domesticity slash.

I enjoyed writing reviews/meta and I went through an LJ icon phase, but I've never really had interest in fic. I think my inclination would be parody except the writers did such a good job on that front, I'd rather just watch my faves. It would have to be a really funny idea.

Date: Wednesday, 3 February 2016 04:27 pm (UTC)I'm picturing vignettes of completely random meaningless things, ranging from the LG shaving each other, surfing the internet and watching TV, having harmless-yet-hilarious domestic spats, and various triadic interactions. Occasional touches of comedy. Rare touches of alternate POV when Mulder & Scully accidentally walk in on an LG sandwich.
Generic fan hilarity fic -- the sort of stuff that fandom eats up because it magnifies the absurdities of mundane life, filtered through the droll comedic lens of the canonical Lone Gunman. (plus the rare instances of Mulder and Scully acting as stand-ins for the fanfic readers, which could include the occasional fannish in-joke as M&S try *not* to imagine what they have seen).

Agreed. Writing parody episodes is *exactly* what fandom is made for except the series delivered on that front so, why bother unless the idea is outstanding. I think this is why it appeals to me-- it is difficult to write good comedy/parody but I cannot imagine writing more than two or three of these. LG domesticity slash has far more legs for an endless series of vignettes because it is something that the series didn't deliver BUT IS 9000% EXACTLY WHAT FANDOM IS ALL ABOUT.
Interesting how different media/franchises inspire completely different approaches to fanfic.
