sarasa_catSometime before 20 Jan comes to a close, I will have reached my goal of 12,500 new words for January. I'm just a few words away but I hit my daily goal hours ago plus I hit my 3000/week goal a couple days early (and then I went off to do other things that must be done) so more words can wait.
Looking back at my writing goals for January, here is where I stand:
Priority 1. Orig Fiction Project One: At least 5500 new words by end of January structured into short scenes, flashfic, etc. Explore the setting. Establishing initial conflicts. World-build. Enjoy.
--> Currently at 1383 words. This has been hard to write. Trying to inspire myself by playing around in other worlds that other people have built. Need to give this a solid push during the remainder of this month. NEED 4117 MORE WORDS FOR JANUARY GOAL!
Priority 2. Orig Fiction Project Two: Write the summary of that novel with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Should read like one of my typical summaries (mostly high level but occasionally short scenes and dialogue sneak in). Minimum total length of 5000 words. Try not to exceed 10,000 words. Aim to finish by January 25th to allow for planning before February begins.
--> Currently at 6699 words although only 5682 words are part of the treatment/summary. The rest is a drafted scene. I haven't yet worked on part 7 (of 7 prompts/parts) which is the big climax and conclusion. I'm thinking I should hold off on that until I comb through the 5682 words I have which are a giant mess and need to be straightened out into something that looks like a plot. Current plan: Stop Writing Treatment/Summary. Start editing and plopping it into a plotting spreadsheet. Go back to writing when it is ready for a final go (maybe this month, maybe next month). For now, I'll say NEW WORDS GOAL FOR JANUARY HAS BEEN MET!
Weekly Reward. Fanfic reward writing: After meeting daily/weekly priority targets, reward myself with a budget of at least 500 shiny new fanfic words per week.
--> Wrote 4028 words for A History of Lies. Haven't rewarded myself in a while because I have been very busy but I'll make a point of rewarding myself whenever I eek out more words for Orig Fiction Project One.
Optional but good idea - Daily/Weekly Habit. Fanfic editing: Make a weekly habit of slogging through a backlogged chapter of editing and POSTING it.
--> Edited 3904 words for A History of Lies! It's a start. Need to edit more so I can post the next chuck.
Optional gold star bonus: In the off chance more free time exists on weekends (hahaha, probably not, but): Pick an old fanfic story, give it a quick edit, post it to [community profile] trant_book_n_curio for final archiving.
--> Nope. ._.
Anyhow, things are looking good for meeting my writing goals. I am writing at least 4 days per week. A lot is going on and I am not yet on my normal schedule so once my schedule normalizes, 5 to 6 days of writing per week is more likely.
Meanwhile:
a. Almost no progress on my reading goals. Life is far too busy.
b. Some progress on enjoying media once again. Playing Fallen London and DAI (as a text adventure). Not new media but, whatever. Good enough given that I am lucky to fit in 6.5 hours of sleep each night.
c. Professional life is very busy, it expands to fill all hours and I'm still only doing 1/2 of what I want to get done... sigh.
