Life required too much of my time for the past 2 weeks, which meant almost no gaming either on mobile devices or on one of my larger gaming devices. But gaming did occur, and starting tomorrow I'll also add a What I'm Playing Wednesday post to my weekly posting schedule -- a post that isn't about mobile games BECAUSE WE NEED MORE GAMING LOVE ON DW. :D

I'll also start x-posting these to Tumblr effective immediately.

Okay. Belated Mobile Gaming:

(1)  Final Fantasy Record Keeper (my iPhone game of choice):  OH WOW SO MANy nEW THINGS I JUST DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START.

Enjoying how the update expands the game to include even more nostalgia via cute pixelated revisits of classic gaming scenes from Final Fantasy games of yore. ...But... over the past two weeks, by the time I fire up FFRK on my phone, it is late and my eyes are closing and at some point earlier in June I accidentally missed out on finishing up the FFXV special event because I fell asleep and when I next logged in the event was all over. :C

With all the new stuff plus old grinding I still need to do, I sort of feel like I need to:

-- schedule in FFRK time on a regular basis (pub trans commuting time?? or back to FFRK while partner watches rando stuff on TV?)
-- make a spreadsheet of what I am trying to accomplish so I can level up my top 10 characters
-- spend a little time googling to figure out useful strategies because I'm still in that weird phase of having middling characters who aren't yet tall enough for the really hard battles.

So, lol, while that sounds like a ridiculous amount of work (like, aren't games supposed to be FUN), FFRK hits me in the good feels spot so hard. Just the music alone makes me all warm and fuzzy and given that I haven't yet spent a single dollar on the non-free aspects of this Freemium game, is2g this is the cheapest form of therapy one can get. It really is that relaxing.

I can't explain why but Final Fantasy soundtrack music has a hypnotic effect on me. Instant stress relief. Add in 8-bit pixel art versions of every FF character who has tickled my imagination over the past 20-something years and I enter state of pure bliss, despite the fact this game is nothing but grindings..

Now that I have time to breathe again, one of my gaming goals for this week is to dive back into FFRK, make sense of all the new content from the update that happened some weeks ago (or month+ ago??), and then start making a plan for leveling up my strongest characters while also enjoying the stuff added to the game. mmmmmmm. joyful grinding goodness and bliss. :)

(2)  Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia (my iPad game of Choice):   Pretty much all I have done over the past two weeks is grind in various daily dungeons as I continue to level up my top characters. Haven't started chapter 8 yet.  Plan to begin playing chapter 8 later this week.

...and...  even though my writing agenda is full to the max, Dissidia always makes me want to write character study shorts. This was so true during the original dissidia (for PSP) for which I wrote a series of Gabranth/Terra FFVI-FFXII x-over drabbles BECAUSE THE GAME BEGGED FOR IT I SWEEEAARRR.  [this these and these].

As discussed in a prior post, I have a strong soft spot for all of the friendships depicted in Opera Omnia, be it old friends reunited or new friendships budding over common interests. I'm thinking about slowly replaying chapters 1-7 in hard mode over the summer, stopping every few dialogue scenes to write 100-word drabbles and/or 200-word double drabbles. Why? I miss the challenge of writing 100 and 200 word stories because it is SUCH A GOOD WRITING EXERCISE and the lightness of the dissidia series feels like perfect for this format.

(3)  ....????....  I am on the look out for good story-based mobile games, preferably with multiple-paths based on dialogue choice that don't take a terribly long time to play.  I have a bunch squirreled away on my devices but I haven't looked at any of them in a very long time.  Recos are welcomed and searching around for something interesting is one of my other priorities for this week.
